Phasmophobia Update Roadmap: When is Horror 2.0 Coming?

Phasmophobia Update Roadmap When is Horror 2.0 Coming

the Phasmophobia 2025 Update Roadmap

Kinetic Games just dropped their 2025 roadmap for Phasmophobia, and honestly?

It’s looking pretty solid.

The updates seem to focus on streamlining smaller changes while making room for the big-ticket items—like the much-anticipated Horror 2.0 update.

Let’s break down what’s coming and why this roadmap is shaping up to be one of the best things to happen to ghost hunting since Phasmophobia made us question all our life choices.

Major Updates: Chronicle & Player Character Overhaul

Two big updates are on the horizon: the Chronicle Update and the Player Character Overhaul. Let’s dive into both.

The Chronicle Update

The Chronicle Update is all about shaking up the evidence system.

The game is adding a new media folder that lets you capture unique video and sound evidence alongside new photo evidence. While details are a little scarce, we can make some solid guesses about how this will work.

My bet?

The sound recording will likely operate similarly to Steven Conrad’s Paranormal P.I., while the video recording will be more passive—probably auto-capturing ghost activity while mounted on a stand.

Some players have speculated that the system will direct your attention to evidence with prompts, but I doubt that. Nothing kills immersion in a horror game faster than the equivalent of a “LOOK HERE” flashing sign. Kinetic Games knows this, so I expect something more natural.

The Player Character Overhaul

This update is exactly what it sounds like: a complete refresh of character models, animations, and the overall experience of playing as a ghost hunter. While a full character customization system won’t arrive until 2026, this update lays the groundwork.

But let’s be real—the potential here is huge. If Kinetic Games plays their cards right, this could open the door to event-exclusive cosmetics, an in-game clothing shop, and maybe even accessories that give slight gameplay perks.

The Demonologist nailed this by letting players buy new homes to serve as their base of operations, each unlocking bits of lore. Imagine if Phasmophobia did something similar—giving us a reason to grind for cash beyond just stockpiling motion sensors.

2025 Map Updates: New Locations & Reworks

Maps make or break ghost hunting games, and Phasmophobia’s roadmap hints at some big changes while showing more of last year’s development sneak preview. While we’re getting an entirely new small-scale map, the real highlights are the reworks of classic locations.

  • Bleasdale Farmhouse (Releasing March 2025) – Complete visual overhaul, new props, and slight layout changes.

  • Grafton Farmhouse & 6 Tanglewood Drive (Releasing later in 2025) – Same treatment as Bleasdale, but details remain scarce.

Bleasdale’s rework already looks fantastic from the sneak peeks, and if that’s the standard for future updates, these revamped maps could feel like entirely new experiences while still keeping that nostalgic familiarity.

Phasmophobia Seasonal Events: A Smarter Approach

Kinetic Games has outlined how seasonal events will work moving forward, and honestly? I dig it.

Instead of reinventing the wheel every year, they’re keeping the same themes (Blood Moon, Winter’s Jest, etc.) but rotating them across different maps and introducing fresh rewards.

This is a genius move because:

  1. It Keeps Things Fresh – Rotating maps means even returning events will feel different.

  2. It Saves Development Time – They can focus on core updates instead of constantly reinventing seasonal events.

This approach strikes a solid balance between maintaining engagement and avoiding burnout—something a lot of live-service games could learn from.

When is Horror 2.0 Coming?

After several delays (partially due to the console release), the Horror 2.0 update is now slated for sometime in 2026

If I had to bet, I’d say Kinetic Games will aim for a release around September or October 2026, since Phasmophobia originally dropped near Halloween 2020.

It just makes sense from a marketing and hype-building perspective.

And you know what?

I’m okay with waiting.

I’d rather get a well-polished, terrifying update than something half-baked (cough Obsideo cough, sorry Kyle!).

If we get an update that delivers the sheer horror of something like Ghost Exile but keeps the polished gameplay and structure of Phasmophobia, we’ll have something truly special.

Final Thoughts: A Roadmap Worth Getting Hyped About

Overall, I think Kinetic Games is making all the right moves.

The Phasmophobia 2025 update roadmap feels well-balanced—cutting down on smaller development distractions while focusing on major overhauls. Plus, they aren’t afraid to take inspiration from other horror games in the genre.

As long as they implement new mechanics in a way that feels organic to Phasmophobia, I’m all for it.

We’re in for some funsies times ahead (yes, I said it). If everything goes as planned, 2025 should be a funderful year for ghost hunters everywhere.

Now, let’s just hope they stick the landing when Horror 2.0 finally arrives.

If you haven’t gotten sucked into the hole of Phasmophobia, I suggest checking out our Phasmophobia review and trying it yourself on Steam!
