Hold onto your capes, heroes!
Marvel Rivals is cranking up the heat with the mid-season 1 update, dropping on February 21, 2025. Our favorite rocky brawler, The Thing, and the fiery daredevil, Human Torch, are crashing the party—and they’re bringing some serious game-changing vibes.
Let’s dive into what these Fantastic additions mean for your gameplay.
Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, isn’t just another chiseled face. As a Vanguard, he’s all about soaking up damage, keeping the bad guys at bay, and flexing the frontline with some clobbering time.
Passive – Solid as a Rock: Say goodbye to knockbacks and displacement effects. Ben stands his ground, no matter what.
Primary Attack – Combination Punch: Unleash a flurry of punches that make enemies rethink their life choices.
Thunderbolt Punch: Charge up and deliver a wallop that sends foes flying.
Furious Charge: Rush forward, scoop up enemies like they’re ragdolls, and slam them down. Ouch.
Battlefield Support: Leap to an ally’s side, reducing damage for both of you. Because teamwork makes the dream work.
Ultimate – Slam Moment: Create a shockwave that launches enemies into the air. It’s crowd control with style.

The Thing’s ability to quickly maneuver around the battlefield providing frontline space while also being able to quickly pivot to shield and protect your backline from divers is going to be extremely helpful against heroes like Black Panther and Spiderman.
Btw, if you’re looking for a guide on how to protect against divers as a support in Marvel Rivals, we do have a few tips available.
But wait, there’s more!
The Thing teams up with Wolverine for the “Fastball Special,” hurling Logan into the fray for surprise attacks, identical to how the team up with The Hulk works now – only with the added benefit of being able to immediately follow in with his “Battlefield Support” ability, adding onto the duos beefiness while keeping disengages available for both heroes.
This dynamic duo can dive into battles, cause chaos, and bail out when things get too hot.
It’s the bromance we didn’t know we needed so check out the full hero reveal trailer below for some rock solid gameplay!
Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, is here to set the battlefield ablaze. As a Duelist, he’s all about high-speed, high-damage antics.
Primary Attack – Fire Cluster: Launch a fireball that splits into smaller projectiles, spreading the love (and the burn).
Plasma Body: Ascend rapidly, dodging attacks and setting up for aerial assaults.
Blazing Blast: Create a flame field that turns enemies into toast.
Pyro Prison: Link flame fields to form a wall of fire. Enemies trying to pass? Bad idea.
Flaming Meteor: Dive-bomb into foes, stunning them and making an entrance they won’t forget.
Ultimate – Supernova: Unleash shockwaves that morph flame fields into fire tornadoes. It’s as awesome as it sounds.

Team him up with Storm, and you’ve got “Omega Fire.” Together, they whip up a fiery hurricane that can burn through even Luna’s ultimate. It’s flashy, it’s deadly, and it’s a nightmare for anyone on the receiving end.

With the full Fantastic Four roster now in play, brace yourselves for a meta where these four are the new black. Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic’s teamup brings team-wide buffs (as long as “The Invisible Woman taps into her powers, channeling Psionic Might to fortify the entire Fantastic Four team” isn’t just flavor text) that, combined with The Thing and Human Torch’s raw power, make for a formidable lineup.
I expect to see teams stacking all four members, a healer, and a flex pick like Wolverine or Storm in practically every game.
While it’s exciting having new heroes released, the novelty might wear thin if every match feels like a Fantastic Four family reunion. To keep things fresh, some team-up abilities might need a nerf to prevent the meta from going stale.

Marvel Rivals’ mid-season update is set to shake things up in the most fantastic way possible. The Thing and Human Torch aren’t just new characters; they’re catalysts for new strategies, epic team-ups, and, let’s be real, some over-the-top mayhem.
Whether you’re ready to embrace the Fantastic Four meta or find creative counters, one thing’s for sure: it’s about to get wild.
So gear up, assemble your squad, and let’s see what kind of chaos we can unleash. The battlefield is heating up, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
