Is Monster Hunter Wilds Woke? Spoiler: No, and Here’s Why

Is Monster Hunter Wilds Woke

Is Monster Hunter Wilds Woke?

There’s a weird trend happening where every successful game gets hijacked by left-leaning ideologues who desperately want to claim it as one of their own. Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest victim of this nonsense, with some loud voices on the internet trying to push the idea that it’s “woke.”

But let’s be real—this isn’t Dragon Age: The Veilguard, this isn’t Concord, and this isn’t some Ubisoft checklist simulator where the straight white dude is a bumbling idiot who needs a lecture from the stunning and brave female lead.

Monster Hunter Wilds is just a damn good game, and any “woke” accusations being thrown around are people grasping at straws.

The “Body Type A/B” Argument – Not New, Not Woke

One of the first things the “woke” accusers latch onto is that Monster Hunter Wilds uses “Body Type A” and “Body Type B” instead of “male” and “female” in character creation.

Sure, this is a thing that’s often seen in games that are pushing an agenda, but guess what?

It’s not that big of a deal.

But let’s be honest—does this change anything about the actual gameplay or my opinion on the wokeness of the game?

Nope.

It’s not like Capcom made the game revolve around identity politics, or like your hunter is suddenly giving lectures on systemic oppression between battles with patriarchal Elder Dragons.

The same exact argument was thrown at Helldivers 2, but that had everything to do with a certain Community Manager that almost single-handedly torched the game (cough Baskinator cough) pushing their personal views rather than anything the devs actually did.

In fact, Johan Pilestedt, CCO of Arrowhead Studios, straight-up said: “If it doesn’t add to the game experience, it detracts. And games should be a pure pursuit of amazing moments.”

You know what adds to the game? Chasing down massive monsters with a greatsword the size of a car.

You know what doesn’t? The alphabet mafia demanding rainbow-colored Palicoes in every update.

“It Has Racial Diversity, So It Must Be Woke” – Absolute Nonsense

Another tired argument is that Monster Hunter Wilds is woke because of its diverse character designs. This speaks more to how left-leaning mobs view their opposition than anything else.

They genuinely think that if you don’t blindly agree with their takes, you must be some kind of white nationalist who gets offended by non-white characters.

Here’s the reality: no sane person has a problem with diversity when it’s done naturally.

Monster Hunter Wilds takes place across various regions, and it actually makes sense for there to be a mix of different backgrounds. This isn’t some Ubisoft special where every character looks like they were designed by a diversity committee, complete with a checklist that ensures the straight white guy is a guilt-ridden coward who gets saved by the heroic gay female POC.

Capcom didn’t shove an agenda down anyone’s throat—they just made a world that feels lived-in.

Nobody playing Monster Hunter Wilds is thinking, “Oh no, a brown person! How will I ever enjoy this game now?” The only people making a big deal about it are the ones desperate to claim every diverse game as part of their ideology.

“Lots of Female Characters, Must Be Woke!” – Seriously?

This one cracks me up. Some people claim that Monster Hunter Wilds is woke because it has a lot of female characters, while others are mad that some of them are attractive.

Pick a lane.

Newsflash: guys like to play games with attractive women in them.

That’s why mods exist to put characters in more revealing outfits

The same crowd whining about female characters in Monster Hunter Wilds is the same one that would throw a tantrum if someone modded Concord to add more revealing characters (not that anyone would—because no one wants to have to burn out their eyes).

Monster Hunter Wilds Focus on Women DEI Woke

If having sexy, strong women in a game makes it woke, then by that logic, Tomb Raider was woke before it was even a term. But no one made that claim because OG Tomb Raider was made for dudes who wanted to see a badass woman doing cool stuff while also looking damn good.

Erik is Non-Binary/Trans? Please Exit Your HeadCanon

Another argument floating around is that Erik, one of the game’s characters, is proof that Monster Hunter Wilds is woke because the voice actress, Casey Mongillo, is non-binary.

Do these people even hear themselves?

If the voice actor determines the identity of a character, then someone better tell The Simpsons that Bart, Nelson, Tod Flanders, and Chief Wiggum are all actually women since Nancy Cartwright has been voicing them for decades.

Erik is just an effeminate dude, and that’s perfectly fine.

Not everyone in a game has to be a muscle-bound warrior swinging a hammer the size of a truck. But instead of just accepting that, people are twisting it into some headcanon nonsense that he’s a trans icon.

You can’t make this stuff up!

The Ultimate Test: Is Anything Forced on You?

This is the big one.

If a game is truly woke, you’ll know because it forces its ideology down your throat. Think about recent games that bombed hard (Dustborn, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Saints Row 2022). What do they have in common?

They treated their audience like a lecture hall and shoved ideology in their faces.

Now, let’s look at Monster Hunter Wilds:

  • No forced messages about racial oppression.
  • No LGBT flags or armor sets waving in your face.
  • No non-binary characters demanding emotional validation quests.
  • No awkwardly shoehorned gay romance scenes.

You play as a hunter, you fight monsters, and you have fun. That’s it. If you go looking for a “woke” agenda in this game, all you’re doing is creating your own little narrative and honestly, it’s more than just a little sad.

Why the “MHW is Woke” Crowd is So Desperate

The truth is, people pushing this narrative are doing so because they want to claim a successful game as proof that a “woke” game can be popular.

But here’s the thing—actual woke games fail.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League flopped. Concord was dead on arrival. Avowed is a flailing dumpster fire. Every time a game leans fully into DEI nonsense instead of good gameplay, it tanks.

The only game that bucks the trend is Baldur’s Gate 3, and even that works because it doesn’t force anything on you. If you want to play as a straight white dude doing straight white dude things, you can. If you want to go full rainbow brigade, the game lets you do that too.

That’s the difference between a good game and a propaganda piece—choice.

A recent video from Endymion I think offered some good points on the whole Monster Hunter Wilds situation, watch the full video below if you’re interested.

I Ask Again, Is Monster Hunter Wilds Woke?

No. Not even close.

It’s just another victim of people trying to claim a game’s success to push their narrative. There’s nothing political about Monster Hunter Wilds. You hunt monsters. You grind for better gear. You get absolutely wrecked by a Rathian and then come back to get your revenge.

That’s it.

If you want a full guide on what to expect in Monster Hunter Wilds, we got your back.

But if you’re worried about whether Monster Hunter Wilds is woke, you can relax. The only thing it’s guilty of is being a damn good game (albeit with some PC optimization issues).

Now get out there and start hunting!
