Gaming GuidesNew Releases 301 Ayefkay November 23, 2024
League of Legends 14.22 update has turned ARAM into even more of a chaotic playground with the introduction of the Raid Boss buff.
If you’re looking to dominate the Howling Abyss—or its revamped Bridge of Progress map—you’ll want to know how to snag this game-changing boost, use it effectively, and deal with it when it’s on the wrong side of the map.
And spoiler alert: Piltover’s City Leader buff?
Yeah, it’s not holding a candle to Zaun’s Raid Boss—but more on that later.
The Raid Boss buff is the new reward for teams who manage to destroy the enemy inhibitor on the Zaun (blue) side of the map.
This buff chooses a random champion close to the inhibitor (although I seem to notice it more often that not go with the one who has highest kills or best KDA) and transforms the champion into a purple-flamed, turbocharged juggernaut with bonuses that include:
This buff makes you an ARAM god, capable of turning a skirmish into an utter stomp.
Riot Games is clearly leaning into the theme of a mad science experiment gone right—if you’re the one holding the buff, that is.
To unlock the Raid Boss buff, your team needs to destroy the enemy inhibitor located on the Zaun side of the map.
Pro tip: Coordinate your push with allies.
Let’s face it—ARAM can sometimes feel like herding cats, but pinging your team to focus objectives is a must.
Once the inhibitor is down, one close champ randomly will be rewarded with this buff, giving you the upper hand to bulldoze through the enemy team.
Once your team gets the Raid Boss buff, it’s time to flex. Here’s how to make the most of it:
Now, let’s talk about Piltover’s counterpart—the City Leader buff. Earned by taking down the Piltover (red) inhibitor, this buff is more about cooldowns, offering:
While useful in its own right, the City Leader buff just doesn’t hit the same high notes as Zaun’s Raid Boss.
Sure, it’s great if you have a champ with really long cooldowns, but most champs don’t need that kind of rotation and the most used spell in ARAM is Snowball – which is already a short cooldown.
Let’s be real, ARAM is about who can smash faces faster—and Zaun simply has the edge in that department with the Raid Boss buff.
If you find yourself staring down a buffed-up Raid Boss team, don’t despair (too much). Here are a few ways to fight back:
Let’s be real—Zaun’s Raid Boss buff feels like a game-changer, while Piltover’s City Leader buff is…fine on the right champ? I guess.
It’s like comparing a flashy new sports car to a reliable sedan.
One gets the job done, but the other is just more fun.
If you’re lucky enough to get the Zaun side of the map, play to your strengths, and enjoy your turn as ARAM royalty.
That’s about it for this guide, but if you want some more League action, we have a new 14.22 Aram Guide and a whole 14.22 Update Notes Overview as well!
